***If you wish to point out any flaws that I may have in this rant, go ahead, but please remember to keep the tone away from what sounds like anger. I’m sorry for the possible flaws, and they’re not intentional. And I don’t mean just the Christians. Wiccans, if you see any flaws in my arguments for either side, comment please and let me know. Thanks!

Okay now that that’s out of the way.

First off I should say that yes I am a witch, and yes I do practice magick. I am part of a religion, however. Its not a stupid, “Well I’m gonna go around cursing people” or “Let’s go see how many people we can control” or something like that. This is a real religion. Its called Wicca. If you want to know more, go google it or something, but I am not gonna spend time explaining the exact science to it in this rant. I’m just too lazy. XD All I have to say about us is that we are not satanic people, we do not worship Satan (contrary to popular belief) and we aren’t ‘out to get’ you. I mean seriously people, lets grow up, shall we?

The one thing that really pisses me off is the Christians. No offence intended. I am merely voicing my opinion, and this is directed at the religion as a whole, not at the people who follow it, nor any single person. Just the thing in itself. And I apologise for any hurt feelings, anger or anything that was not intended in the writing of this rant. This is NOT my intention. My intentions are to release the pent-up feelings I have, to explain what it is about some religions that piss me off and why. This is just my view. I mean if you were talking to a Christian, yes they would certainly have a much different point of view than I do. So please don’t start bitching and whining at me. If you don’t have anything nice to say, shut your mouth and walk away.

First off is the fact that everything you do in everyday life seems to me like it’s a sin. Having sex is deemed as wrong, and so is giving into certain urges and pleasures. Now, yes I can understand the whole no adultery thing (duh! Having sex with a married person who is not your partner is NOT</b> okay! Though Christians and Wiccans may disagree on many levels, I for one completely understand the reason behind this commandment. Same with the not killing one. That one’s self-explanatory I think.) But the thing is, sex isn’t all that bad. And it’s supposed to be healthy, and from what I’ve heard it feels great! (I’m 15 so I, unlike so many my age, am still a virgin and I will remain this way until I am married. This is of my own choosing.) But also, to want is to sin. Well if one looks at it in this light then fuck, we’re all going to hell. We were the day we came out of the womb, because we want air; we want food; we want attention! To want is not a bad thing, provided that one does not want too much, and that one pays back for what they have taken. If you live in balance, then there is no reason to not take at times. Just make sure you’re giving back as much as you take.

Also, the Christians are against lesbians and gays. This pisses me off. There is nothing wrong with being gay or lesbian. These people are just different. They can’t help it. And besides, apart from the differences in the bodies, how are we to know that we’re not the gay ones, and they’ve got it right! I know, the anatomy of the human body is a bit obvious, but seriously people. That, and as someone very close to me has pointed out (no names mentioned sorry), how do we know that we’re not all gay? Like maybe not to the point where we’re having sex with and dating our own sex, but just the slightest bit. And I have to agree – how do we know? We don’t. That’s just the problem. But we all do what society thinks is the norm. I don’t think that these people should be forbidden to marry – or even exist – just because of something that they cannot control. It’s not right.

The fact that a lot of Christians believe that if you’re not Christian then you’re with the devil makes me really pissed as well. Different religions come from different places. They’re in no way inferior to you, and nor are you to them. I don’t think that we should be hated just because we worship a different god/dess than you. Or even if we don’t worship at all. It doesn’t bloody-well matter. So what? Unless the person is intentionally inflicting harm on you, then you have no right to hate them. And even if they do, hate the person, not the religion. There are so many lies circulating that Wiccans are devil-worshipers. But the thing is, we’re not. We worship a God and a Goddess. Both are equal in rank, and neither can exist without the other. We’re not all that different. Every religion has a different God/dess, but in a sense they all represent the same thing. Sure, they may be completely different, but it doesn’t mean that they’re wrong. There is no one true way to salvation. But then again, what is salvation? How do you know when you’ve been saved? I don’t know – I don’t have the answers for you.

Another thing is the fact that Christianity has taken over a number of Pagan holidays. A couple examples of these holidays are Christmas and Easter. The idea of decorating a tree at Yule is originally a Pagan ritual. Also the symbols for Easter (the colours, bunnies and chicks and the like) are derived from Paganism. And yet a lot of people consider these to be Christian holidays. I mean sure its okay that the dates may be the same, you know, whatever we cant do anything because I know neither side would be willing to change the dates, and even if we did, all it would do is confuse the shit outta people. But at least give SOME</b> recognition to the Pagans for starting the holidays. Also the fact that the economy has totally exploited these two holidays on gifts is annoying too. Christmas (Yule) is, according to some Wiccans, the time of Yule celebrates the rebirth of the God. Easter (I think its Ostara which is spring equinox correct me if I’m wrong) is the rejoining (a.k.a. act of having sex) between the God (which is the Goddess’s son/husband) and the Goddess. Also Halloween (Samhain) is the night, for some, to honour the dead, and the deities who are associated with the dead, such as Morrigan (Celtic), Hel (Norse), et cetera. Somehow, somewhere along the line, though, Halloween got turned into a time where kids dress up in costumes and beg for candy. I mean, yes I will be among the first to agree that this is a total blast, but that’s not what the holiday is really about. I guess in a sense, then, I’m not only criticizing the Christians, but also the world’s economy for destroying so many things with money!

The thing that really gets my panties in a knot (sorry love that expression) is that we Wiccans are considered devil children. Hell I’ve heard from people that they can’t walk down the bloody street without being called a devil or something. I mean, even a swimming instructor noticed my necklace a few weeks ago (the pentacle) and asked me how Satan was. I damn near nutted the idiot it pissed me off so much. But I think one of the main reasons for this is miscommunication. So I’ll give you a short rundown on what we Wiccans are all about. No, I think I’ll do one better and post the Wiccan Rede in here. Basically its like the ten commandments for the Christians.

The Wiccan Rede

Eight words the Wiccan Rede fulfill-
An it harm none, as what ye will

1 Deosil means clockwise. This movement in a circle is used to draw the positive
2 Widdershins means counter-clockwise. Movement is usually used in dispelling negative things, such as bad energy or disease.


So basically this is the outline for what we need to do. It mainly states that as long as we’re not hurting someone intentionally we can do what we want. I personally think that this is a much better deal than what the Christians have, because we don’t have a big long list of shit that we cant do. But I must say that sex is not a normal or mandatory with us. It is considered sacred – the union between man and woman, woman and woman or man and man. Ritual nudity is common, but as is sex, it’s not mandatory. And if you’re practicing in a coven (group), then there may be some ritual nudity, so be prepared, but no one said that you had to join that particular coven. There are plenty around if you just start looking. Also in a coven situation, there should be NO</b> sex involved. If the high priest/ess is asking you for sex, or anyone else in the coven for that matter, get the fuck out of that coven</b>. As I believe I have stated before, sex is considered sacred by the Wiccans, not something that’s to be toyed with. Now this isn’t to say that you can't have sex – its just saying that its not mandatory that you do. Holidays are a different matter because a lot of the Wiccan holidays seem to revolve around sex, but there should be no forced sex in a coven. Don’t think that just because other people are going along with it means you have to too, because if that’s the case, they shouldn’t be a high priest or priestess. Same goes for teachers as well. If they’re asking you for sex in return for their services, don’t go along with them. Its not right! (Please note that most covens will not ask for sex as most are law-abiding covens. When I say law, I do not mean the law of a country. I mean the Wiccan laws. And forcing someone to have sex is not</b> considered to be law-abiding! But this does not often happen. Or at least I hope it doesn't!) There are some people who choose to practice skyclad (naked) but not all of us do. It’s a personal choice. I for one am not very comfortable going around my house in just a bra and a pair of jeans when I’m alone, never mind buff naked! But if people do, so long as they’re not doing it with their windows wide open to the whole world, its fine. But we are not all nudists. Not that there’s anything wrong with being one. No offence to anyone.
